Sabikui Bisco, written by Shinji Cobkubo, is a Japanese light novel series that has K Akagashi as the illustrator and mocha as the world-building artist. Through their label, Dengeki Bunko, ASCII Media Works has released eight volumes of the light novel as of March 2018 and Yen Press received a license for an English version which was released in North America.

Square Enix serialized the manga adaptation of the series, which was drawn by Rokudo Takahashi on their website Manga UP! From April 2019 to March 2021. The series collected over around four tankobon volumes. The second part of the manga saw a shift in the artist with So Natsuki taking over. This part was also serialized on the website from December 2021 and has collected one tankobon volume. The anime adaptation of the series was produced by Studio OZ and aired from January to March 2022.

Sabikui Bisco Season 2 Release Date

The first season of Sabikui Bisco ended on March 29, 2022, and gained immense popularity along with good ratings on websites such as Crunchyroll and MyAnimeList. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding the release of a second season, however, given the reviews and the already existing content that the Sabikui Bisco light novel has, a second season can be expected to release around 2023, although this will also depend on its production house, Studio OZ.

Japan is hit with the “Rust Wind”, a plague that erodes the body and eventually kills the person, that is believed to be caused by the spores of mushrooms leading the Mushroom Guardians, a clan of people skilled in caring for the mushrooms, to be isolated and often seen as a threat to society.

However, in reality, the cause of “Rust Wind” comes from a defensive weapon called Tetsujin that exploded causing the Rust to spread across Japan. The Mushrooms that people think of as a threat are actually the only things that can cure or reduce the effects of rust. However, because of the isolation and hate from society, many of the Mushroom Guardians are hidden away from the world.

Bisco Akaboshi, grows mushrooms all over the country to prevent the effects of rusting from spreading as a part of his ability as a Mushroom Guardian. However, his goodwill is seen as a form of terrorism and the government puts a bounty on his head, leading him to gain the nickname “Man-eating Mushroom”. After his guardian Jabi falls ill to the Rust, he sets out on a journey to find the mythical rust-eating mushroom along with a pair of siblings called Milo and Pawoo who he meets along the way.

Bisco Akaboshi

Bisco Akaboshi is the main protagonist of the series Sabikui Bisco. Bisco is a Mushroom Keeper or Mushroom guardian who sets out on a journey to find the legendary Rust-Eater Mushroom to cure Jabi, who is his guardian and mentor after he starts showing signs of Rust and starts to grow weak. Bisco is also an outlaw who has a bounty on his head, being nicknamed the Man-eating Redcap by the Japanese government who believe he is conducting Mushroom Terrorism. Bisco has spikey red hair with green eyes and a tattoo under his right eye.

Milo Nekoyanagi

Milo Nekoyanagi is one of the protagonists of the series Sabikui Bisco. Milo is a beautiful young boy who is a genius when it comes to medicine. He creates medicine from illegal mushrooms in hopes of curing his sister, Pawoo, who is also affected by Rust. Milo runs a clinic in Imihama and is often called Panda sensei due to the large black bruise that circles his left eye. Milo has blue hair with blue eyes.

Pawoo Nekoyanagi

Pawoo Nekoyanagi is a supporting character in the series Sabikui Bisco and Milo’s sister who is affected by Rust. However, despite this fact, Pawoo is very athletic and has a strong physique. Pawoo like her brother is a beautiful young woman who has long black hair and blue eyes.
